Ultralase Offer

Although price isn`t the primary concern when considering laser eye surgery, I was told that the Ultralase special offer of £999 per eye ends in April.

Dear Eveleen

It's well worth your coming back in for a consultation - the recommendation to come back would have been made so that we could assess any significant changes in your prescription.

Our technical team believes you probably mean a macular hole rather than a molecular hole; if this is the case, I'm afraid that this would more than likely contra-indicate you from having treatment.

Regards
Robin

thanks for the response - and i guess you guys are right with regard to the macular hole. i have to be honest i have contacted Moorfields and i hope to hear from them soon as to what they think. i know what you are saying and i sort of agree to the fact that maybe i should come back for a consulation. but then i think that at the end of the day reading all these people's points on here and with other research i have done myself, that my eyes are so weak that it would be too much of a risk to attempt treatment. especially as this treatment is so new and the long term effects are not fully known. i know you say the consultants have patients' best interests in mind but then, as with everything, you as a company have to keep up with other specialist laser companies, so more treatments means more results. i would want to know for definate that this treatment will not make eyes worse! any comments would be appreciated?

Just to add firstly, i note that the replies posted by Ultralase are given by Adminstrators. without sounding offensive - are you technically sales people? i do not mean any discourtesy in saying this but i would gues that you tell people whatever the case to go for a consultation. secondly, is there anywhere to change the password i have been given as this one is very random!??

Dear Eveleen

Firstly, we will only ever proceed to treatment if the patient and the surgeon are entirely happy to do so. Whilst laser eye treatment is a highly successful treatment, there are no guarantees that you will achieve the result you are wanting - no laser eye treatment provider (including Moorfields) would be able to provide such guarantees. At Ultralase, we go into considerable detail about the potential risks and side effects of treatment on our website (click here for more details).

At the time you first visited us for consultation, the results showed that you were not suitable at that time for treatment. We asked you to return to us 12 months later so that we could assess whether your eyesight had stabilised sufficiently for us to perform treatment.

Although short sightedness (myopia) of around -8.00D is well within our treatment parameters, your description of a macular hole leads us to believe that you would still not be suitable for treatment, but we wouldn't be absolutely certain until we saw you at a further consultation. That said, it's entirely up to you as to whether you wish to re-book. If you would prefer not to, that's fine.

We certainly do NOT tell people 'whatever the case to go for a consultation'. This would be a waste of our patients' time if we already know that they are unsuitable for treatment, it also commits resource in the clinics that would be better used for patients whom we are able to help, and it would be completely unethical. However, If there is any doubt a patient's suitability for treatment, we can resolve this doubt at consultation.

Ultralase was the UK's first laser eye treatment clinic, and we have been providing this specialist service for nearly 14 years. We are also the only provider to have its treatment results and enhancement rates independently audited. Note that whichever provider you choose, your treatment will be performed privately, even within NHS establishments such as Moorfields. Other than in the most extreme cases, laser eye treatment is not available on the National Health Service.

To answer your question about the Ultralase postings - these postings are made by my colleagues and me, and are intended to be fair and honest responses to prospective patients' queries. You may be interested to know that the Forum has been in existence now for around 12 months and in all that time we have never had to edit a single posting, and only one has ever been removed, because it overstepped the terms & conditions of forum membership. This, I hope, demonstrates the objective nature of the site.

I personally am PR & Communications Manager for Ultralase. I have several years' experience working for Ultralase and am a former patient myself, having undergone LASIK treatment in 2000. Julie McMurrough is our Customer Services Manager and Dan Baines is our Marketing Co-ordinator, one of my team. Between us, we deal with the majority of queries posted on the Forum. If, however, we are presented queries that require specific technical feedback (such as your macular hole), we forward these to our professional services manager, Mark Korolkiewicz, who is a fully qualified optometrist, responsible for our team of ophthalmic surgeons and optometric specialists.

The purpose of this forum is to provide help for existing and prospective patients, whether they are Ultralase's own patients or those who intend to have, or have had, treatment elsewhere. I hope this helps to reassure you.

Finally, I will changed your password to something more memorable and will email this to you separately.

Kind regards
Robin

Hi Eveleen

You didn't sound rude - it's a fair point you made and I'm glad to have been able to clarify it.

Good luck with your consultation at Moorfields.

Regards
Robin
