Intra ocular implants

After years of pondering I finally plucked up the courage to have an ocular implant in my right eye which was -13d.
I had treatment at the Nottingham Nuffield on Thursday 23rd November and would like to thank all the staff at the Nuffield with special mentions to Manny, my surgeon and Anna, the Ultralase rep for seeing me through the day :)
I went back to see Manny at Manchester on Saturday and all is well so far.
I could read the second bottom line of the chart- Couldn't even see the chart before !
Looking forward to having my left eye treated by laser in January.

Keeping up with my eye drops and no real problems with vision although the Exocin drops sting a lot more than the others.
I also have no appetite and feel nauseous occasionally.
No great problem though as I've lost about 4lb :)
Wonder if the laser treatment will be as easy as early morning driving is part of my job ?

Popped down to Manchester for some more eye drops ( Can't always hit the target first time ! ) wearing clip on sunnies over my glasses and no hat.
First unnerving part today and I'm sure it's to do with my ex dominant left eye.
Unable to focus whilst chopping veg and a slight headache. May have to bring my appointment for lefty forward or start wearing a contact again

Two weeks on

Well two weeks ago at this very time I was coming out of surgery.
Can't wait till Saturday for my check up and I guess tonight is the last night I'll have to sleep in my eye patch !
Still unsure what the prescription will be in my "done" eye but it's certainly better than it was.
Due to have ultralasik plus with intralase in my left eye in January but hoping I can have it done sooner-like next week:)

Good to hear of your progress Dave, especially as there are comparatively few mentions of people's experience of IOLs on here.

Out of curiosity, what is the prescription of your left eye?

Think it was -4.50 with no cyl or axis problems
Didn't really discuss the lasik/lasek options as I was too busy thinking about the other procedure.

Seeing as this is "The treatment day" thread I suppose I could tell you about my day.
I had my treatment at the Nottingham Nuffield on Thursday 23rd November but arrived on Wednesday and stayed overnight at the Holiday Inn Castle Marina (All part of the service)
I arrived at the Nuffield at 11am and was shown to my private room where I met Anna from Ultralase and the staff who would be looking after me.
Basically I fell asleep listening to my IPOD until I had my eye drops ( 3x's every 15 mins) before I went down to surgery at 15.00.
Suppose the worst part was having my eyelids pinned back, although there was no pain, just felt pressure.
Had a cloth of some sort over my left eye but was fully conscious and was aware of Manny fiddling around.
20 mins later and it was all over, wheeled back up to the ward, given tea and sandwiches and I had vision in my right eye although blurred through the eye patch.
Was checked over by Manny and taken back to the hotel in a taxi by the lovely Anna, hit the bar to relax and by 8 am next morning my vision was clear although a bit in and out.
Would recommend wearing something that doesn’t need pulling over your head though as it’s a right pain with a teeshirt.
Dave
P.S
£3.30 a pint !

lens implants

Hi to Sockport Dave. I had a lens implant on 21st Nov in the left eye performed by Mark Wevill in B'ham. It went very well and did not hurt one bit. Mark is super, the best, made me feel so relaxed from the first time we met.My vision is not quite perfect I may need glasses for driving but given my prescription was -10 I am not complaining after wearing contacts for 25 years. I am going to get the right eye done on 11th dec.Glad you are doing ok.

Had my 3 week overhaul and it seems my right eye is better than -1 :)
Suppose with not being used to "good" vision I thought it was a bit out as I can't read with it.
Thanks Manny:D
Noticed the halos around the street lamps but I'm sure I had that before.
Going for my left eye consultation Monday and hope to be in before Christmas

Hi Dave

Just want to say thanks so much for the message you sent me. I did have the right eye implant on Monday 11th and its been great so far. Went back for check up yesterday and left eye is getting better each time, right is still a bit short sighted but Mark under corrected it deliberately to compensate for when I would need reading glasses.I am not complaining, its unbelievable to see first thing in the morning.
Hope all is well with you and that it goes good next monday.
Keep us posted, and thanks again Dave

Manny did the same for me although it's better than that !
Knew I'd have to pass off the reading to compensate but WTH
Glad to hear it's OK and I'll look forward to seeing you underwater !
Think I'm looking forward to Monday ....

Have had implants in London by Optimax ,professor Ventor on 24 and27 November . Vision not perfect and have had high eye pressure requiring beta blocker eye drops . have been very nauseous and sever headaches . Anyone else had these problems . I am still attending the clinic in Glasgow and am still off work

I'd suggest you contact Optimax as soon as possible, or even your GP. It maybe that use of an adrenergic or some other medication would be preferable for you than beta blockers for lowering your intraocular pressure. Alternatively, using both medications, but in lower doses, maybe an option.

I'm not counting my chickens yet :)
Had some streaming after I got home but no pain or grittiness yet
Been taking Vit C and echinacea since the last op so I wonder if that helps
