Had my checkup today at Ultralase (8 days since left eye op, 17 days since right eye op). Eyesight has actually improved slighty, not that I can tell
but thats good. Not going to change my glasses though as there doing there job for now and I'm trying not to wear them all the time.
Unfortunetly the funny light effect I get in the dim light are where the ceiling light is hitting my lens. Something to do with my pupils getting bigger in the lower light and becoming bigger then the lens implant. I've been
told that this will get better over the years though as as we get older our muscles in our eyes don't work so well so the pupils don't expand as much.
I'm just worried about what it'll be like driving at night now though. Ultralase did know I was borderline for my pupils getting to big, although I
was never told of this till today.
Eyes are healing fine. I still have a bit of blood at the bottom of my right eye, but they are still saying that will go eventually, and I can tell it
has been shrinking. My eyes are looking okay apart from that. My right eye feels fine, but my left one still get a bit sore now and then, but its
still early days for that one.
Anouther checkup in 4 weeks. So its just a case of wait and see how my eyes heal now.

Hi All
Had my 1 week post operatin check at Southampton yesterday, healing very well with only slight inflamation and I can read the smallest prind on the
card with ease. I am also all but 20/20 vision with my distance lens which I have been told should be the same after the op on Monday but will update
you after that.
So far so good and I am ecstatic about my results.
Just as a quick query, has anyone worn lenses up until their RLE operation because Emily at Southampton says I can but on the documentation is says I
should for 24 hours - is this just for Laser?
I have been told that the original 'Quivering effect I had was because of the RLE - the lens takes a while to settle into position unlike the IOL
where is sits on top of the original leans - so that asnwers my question or anyone else who is interested
Take care and speak soon

Just a quick update incase anyones wondering-
My right eye still has a bit of blood under it which is getting a bit ennoying now. But I slept without the eye sheild over that eye and it was gr8, a bit scary at first but once I was asleep I was fine! Also washed it
nearly normally but I find it a bit tender where the stitches are if I touch my eye lid where they are. If I blink to hard I get a little sharp pain
in my left eye.
Its been gr8 to be out in the sun these last few days and not have dry contact lenses in like they used to be. So my eyes actually feel better then they used to!!
I'm wearing my glasses in the evenings and in darker lit rooms and to drive but trying not to rely on them. Its only really cause theres still a bit
of astigmastism left in my right eye which I struggle with.
Might even try putting eye makeup on again on Thursday!! Have to be careful though!
I run out of tape for the shields so called ultralase and they sent me out some which I got the next day which was gr8! And its nicer tape. I found I
was doubling up with the tape I had orginally as it was really thin. And the glue left from the tape was horrible. But the new tape they've sent me
was nice and thick and leave's no glue behind. So if anyones getting there eyes done try and ask for nice thick tape as its so much easier!
After each eye operation I've had to put 2 different types of drops in my eye 4 times a day for 28 days. But am a bit worried as I think the
antibiotic ones for my right eye have run out. Struggled to get one drop out of the bottle just now. I've not over used them of anything. Not missed
any doses so far either! Might have to call them 2moro. As I've only got 6 days till my 28 days is up they might just say to leave it.
Sharron - How'd you get on with your other eye? let us know when your able to see what your typing . hope your doing okay and not to painful!

Hi again Stacey, I ran out of drops and rang Birmingham and they said they would send more in the post. They didn't arrive , so I phoned back and
they immediately sent me some via a taxi (I live 35 miles from Birmingham) so they are obviously important. Its brilliant when you dont have to use
the drops anymore.
Bye for now

Thanks for that Madelaine.
Was debating weather to leave it or not, but after seeing your message I thought I'd better call Ultralase and see what they think.
I was told that if I needed more drops I would have to get myself to Southampton and get them myself as its there policy not to send eyedrops in the
post. They said preferably they would like me to finish my course of treatment but if I thought I was doing okay then it was up to me. The lady on the
phone said that even if they did send them out in the post, by the time I received them, it would probably be nearer the time I should finish the
drops anyway.
I explained that I've not overused my eyedrops but have not missed any doses so this must happen to other people too?? I think my anti-inflametry
drops for my right eye will probably run out 2moro.
Has anyone else that has had IOL's found there drops ran out before the 28 days is up??

Really funny thing happened to me last night!!
I only needed to wear my left eye shield until weds night but decided to wear it a bit longer as I'm worried about my stitches. I wore the right eye
sheild for nearly 3 weeks!
Anyway, its all taped down well as usual, then at about 3am I wake up with the left side of my face buried in the pillow and I'm thinking wheres my
eye shield gone?? Really confused, thought it must of fallen off and be in the bed somewhere. Decided, sod it, already slept on that eye now, may as
well carry on.
In the morning I said to my husband I think my eye sheild fell off last night and I've no idea where it is. And it was so funny when he said - You
where sat up in bed moaning last night and peeling your sheild off!! I can
honestly swear I do not remember this!! Really scary tho as I could have done it within the two weeks!! Thank god it wasn't!!
Just thought I'd share! I'm not normaly the type of person to do stuff in my sleep other then talking occasionaly, so was very surprised by myself. It
must of been really annoying me!!
Hows everyone else getting on??

Hi Stacey
Glad to hear things are going well. I was laughing at your antics through the night - that is just the sort of thing I would do!!
I am getting nervous and excited with under 2 weeks to go now until my first op. I am a bit worried about how I am going to manage in between ops. I
am hoping they might be able to give me a soft lens to wear for at least some of the time as I think taking a lens out of my glasses may just make me
feel dizzy. I will just have to see how I go the day after the op.
Did you manage to go for the full 4 days without washing your hair?
I am thinking about having my eye lashes tinted like you did. It is bad enough that I am going to have to go out in public wearing my glasses with
only one lens but also wearing no make up means I could frighten children!!
Anyway all the best with your recovery and enjoy your holiday.
Best wishes.

Thx Trudy! Glad it made u giggle!
I don't think Ultralase will give u a lens to wear for the untreated eye. Might be worth gettig a soft contact lens for the eye your having done
second. You may be lucky and find that u can see so well out of the first eye you have done that u might be able to get around without your glasses.
Its pritty impossible to wear glasses with one lens in.
Are you taking time off work between eyes?
I went one day without washing my hair!! (rubbish I know!! ) I couldn't stand it!
I was really careful. I bathed everynight for nearly 4 weeks as I found it easier to wash my hair that way. You have to be really careful though. I
washed my whole face with boiled water (cooled a bit obviously ) and cotton
pads and cotton buds for the lashes. Put a mug of boiled water next to you when u bath then whilst your sat in the bath u can carefully wash your
face. And I found having cotton pads near was reassuring incase u felt any bath water running towards your eyes, then u can just wipe it away with a
dry pad.
If you decide to get your eye lashes tinted Ultralase like you to do it at least 1 week before your first eye op. Also, I found out after I had my
first eye done that you can't pluck your eye brows for 1 week after each operation too!! So if your worried about that you could get your eyebrows
shaped too? I think I would of done if I'd of known that I couldn't pluck my eyebrows afterwards. Although my eyebrows actually don't look that bad
now I can't see them close up like I used to be able to do without my glasses on before my IOL's where done! I'm sure your look fine though! Eyelash
tinting is never the same as mascara, it just never looks thick enough! It was so odd when I put my eye makeup on again for the first time I thought
OMG it looks to dark and heavy.!! I'd actually got used to what I looked like without eye makeup. But I am now back to wearing it everyday and feel a
lot like my old self! Be glad when I can stop useing eye drops, I'm finding it harder and harder to remember to put them in. The right one finishes
today and the left one has anouther 9 days left.
You just try not to think about it too much, especially just before bed time or it can play on your mind too much. Your gonna be nervous on the day of
your operation but then I think everyone is! I certainly was for both eyes! But its soon over and forgotten about!
Hope it all goes well for you

Hi Stacey
Thanks for the advice about the eyelash tinting. I have actually booked to get it done next week so I will change it to this week to make sure it is
done in plenty of time. When do you have to stop wearing make up. Is it just on the day of the surgery itself? Then, how long after the surgery do
you have to wait before wearing it? I assume it is OK to put a bit of foundation/blusher on?
No problems about my eyebrows as being blonde you can hardly see them anyway so I have never done anything with them!
Best wishes.

Hi Trudy
No probs. You can wear makeup until the day of treatment (thats what I did) I wasn't told what to do about the makeup before my operation. I didn't
wear any makeup on the day. They clean your eye and put that yellow iodine stuff in it too (stings a little bit but not bad at all!). They do all that
once your in the operation room. I think if you had eye makeup on on the day you would probably come home with just one eye with makeup on
After the eye surgery its 2 weeks before you can start wearing any eye makeup again. I brought a few packs of diposable mascara brushes and once I had
gone past the two weeks on my second eye I started using them to apply the mascara, then bined them staight away each time. Just being a bit
overcautious! I'm still doing that now as its only been one week since I've been wearing eye makeup again. You can still wear any other makeup like
foundation or lipstick etc.
Lucky you having blond eye brows!!
I'm still doing okay. Been getting eyestrain again which is annoying me as I keep getting headaches now. I've always had problems with eye strain in
my right eye. I've been trying to wear my glasses more but the eye strain comes and goes. I've had to take paracetamol a few tmes. Just have to wait
till my next checkup or until I get that laser top up done. And oh yes I still have a bit of blood in my right eye. Its taking forever to go, I can see it taking 6 months to clear up at this
rate!!
Make sure you take some paracetamol or some sort of painkillers with you so that if you need to you can take them after surgery. I certainly needed
them about 20 minutes afterwards, but I had stitches so you may not need them. But take some just in case!!

Hi Peeps
Been having huge log in problems but hopefully they are now rectified
My eyes are settling down nicely thanks Stacey - on the drops note - I was told at both operations that the drops would not be enough for the duration
and to get Emily to give me some more at the week after check. Maybe they forgot to tell you as they only used to ask you to use the drops two weeks
and that has recently changed to four weeks.
I still have the slight fuzziness with dim light but Emily has ordered a pair of glasses for Driving in the dark only. To be honest if that is the
only time that I have to use them for the rest of my life then I am still really pleased.
Even with the slight fizziness I still have 20-20 for distance and can still read small print so I don't think there is any real problem.
How are the stiches coming along Stacey?
Trudy - hoe you stay calm and collected and have the same experience I did. I thin there is a difference between what is allowed for IOL's and RLE
like we are having.
PS hope the eye lashes look good!!!

Hi everyone
Well, one week today I will be packing for my trip to Manchester. The time since my consultation seems to have been dragging and I just want to get
on with it now! No doubt with next week being a short week due to the bank holiday the time will fly.
I just wanted to thank both Stacey and Sharron for all their advice and support. It has been great to get in touch with people who are going/have
gone through similar experiences.
I will be in touch again to let you know how the first op went and I can only hope that I have the success that Sharron has had.
Trudy

PS. Well pleased with my eyelashes!!

Glad you're all doing OK
Just an update on me, my vision is still great 3 months on. I do still have starbursts and halos when my eyes are tired though. Hoping it will get
better, but after 3 months I am thinking they might be there to stay. Well, better than needing glasses

My god its been busy on here since I last been on!!
Good to here from u Sharron! I was getting worried that you'd had problems or
something! So pleased its all gone good for you. Can't beleive that about the drops! Bit annoyed that they never gave me enough then said I would have
to go in and get them myself if I wanted some more!! Thats really not on when its
putting my eyes at risk of complications! I shall have to have a word with them when I'm next in.
Think I'm going to struggle driving at night. Get really bad glare around lights when its dark so don't know if I'm going to be able to night drive
anymore, which is the only thing worrying me at the moment. What are the glasses like they have given you?
Stitches are still there I think! I don't feel then anymore, not even when I
put on eye shadow, whereas it felt sore when I applied it the first few times. So thats good. And the blood is now just a smudge of pale pink under
the coloured part of my eye, so thats getting there too.
--- --- ---
Thats really nice of you Trudy. No probs giving any advice etc. just thought it
would be nice to post some stuff on here about IOL's as there never seemed to be much on here about it. Helped reassure me through the whole thing
too! Glad your pleased with your lashes too!
--- --- ---
Thats great your still doing okay too Chesebrgr. Did you have any eye drop problems? And how do u find driving at night?
Well I'm off on hols 2moro so wish you all the best for the coming week. Good luck to Trudy, I'm sure your be fine. Its all really amazing really!
Just as long as your all prepared with cotton buds, pads, painkillers, sunglasses and anything else you think you may need, then your be all set!!
All for now

No eye drop problems at all. I hated them at first but got used to them. No problems driving at night either, except when I'm really tired the
starbursts are a bit distracting, so I just pull over and rest my eyes for a bit.

Hiya all,
Thx Chesebrgr - Think I'll have to see what its like at night time when I'm out 2moro evening! Glad drops all finished now, although have got some
different ones now as eyes have been a bit sore but at least it doesn't matter if
I forget to use them.
Trudy - hope your doing okay and your 1st op went well on Monday x x
I'm getting on ok. Had my check up on Thurs, got told off tho as I been rubbing my eyes for the last few days and thought it was ok too!! Oooppss! I'd not been rubbing them lots but in the evenings they've been getting
itchy and I thought I was ok to rub them now. But Emily at Southampton told me I should never rub my eyes as it puts pressure on my eye and the lens.
And as my stitches are still there I could do some real damage. My 3 year old boy has elbowed me and whacked me with his toy hammer in my left eye
this week! Ow! Been doing well with the kids till then. The hammer incident really
hurt for a few minutes afterwards so I was pritty concerned. Seems okay tho.
My eyes have been stinging a bit in the morning and evenings so Emily gave me some artificial tear drops to try and recommended I start using my eye
drops which I've always been prescribed by my doctor for my hayfever for my eyes. So I'll see if that helps with the stinging, itchy, sore eyes. I
even took an antihistamine tablet this morning as I think the hayfever has got bad and its making me feel a bit crap!
I was really chuffed at my checkup as they managed to correct my left eye (with the machine containing the lenses) so much that I had 20/20 vision in
my left eye!!!! I never ever thought I would get 20/20, and even Ultralase
said it would be highly unlikely I could ever achieve that as I've always struggled to get to driving standard. I'm not sure if that means I might be
able to have 20/20 in my left eye afer they've done the top up laser. My prescription had only changed a bit so still continuing with the glasses they
gave me which are just fine. My eyes seem a bit sensitive to the sunshine again at the moment as well. And I've had the odd occasion where I've felt
like I've got an eye lash in my eye which has not been very nice. Hopefully they will settle down again they did before.
Hope everyone else is doing good! All for now

Hi Stacey
So how did the holiday go in the end? I have had a few more problems by way of regression. Both eyes are now short sighted I have a lots of problems with blurry vision, not just in dim light, but even if it
goes from sunny to overcast. I have my month after op with Emily on Friday 21st so hopefulyy she can give me a way ahead Last day of drops today but still using dry drops. I am going to ask Emily about
Alphagan Drops as they are supposed to help with dim light blurriness and ghosting etc. Has your Dim light blurriness got any better over the last
few weeks?
On the whole I am still positive, just a bit hacked off that the sight was so good for the first couple of weeks and now 4 and 6 weeks in it has
deteriorated I can still read anything put in frint of me though which is always
a bonus
Take care and speak soon

Hi Sharron
Sorry to hear your eye sight isn't corrected fully. Have u been having the dry eyes for a while? Mine only got dry in the last couple of weeks.
Ultralase gave me the Artificial tear drops but they make my eyes sting and water everytime I put them in so I've just stuck to my eyedrops for
hayfever and they don't seem to bad. I've had more feelings of an eye lash in my eye but can never see anything there, so don't know what that is . Could be to do with the stitches I guess.
Had a good holiday thx. Shame weather wasn't very nice. I found I was wearing my glasses all the time as we where inside alot and the lighting wasn't
great. I also had the disco lights to contend with every evening! So by the
time I got home my nose was sore where my glasses rub my face (Glasses never sit very well on my face). Since I've been home though I've not worn the
glasses much and havent had any eye strain or head aches so far which is great. I don't even notice the glare in the evening so much now, think I've
got used to it. I'm actually thinking I might be able to drive at night times too. Not tried it yet tho!
I think my dim light may have improved a bit but I still struggle. Need my glasses to watch TV and drive, and I probably should wear them when using
the PC but I can see it fine so don't find the need to.
Did Emily give you some glasses like mine? Maybe you have astigmatism like me which is why you are having problems with the blurring? Hope Friday goes
well, let me know how you get on. Surprised weve not heard from Trudy, hope shes ok. Going to try and message her in a min.
Best of luck for Friday x x

Alphagan Drops
Hi Stacey
My eyes are a little dry but the drops leave a geasy residue everytime I blink so I have only been using them when I really need them. That in
isteslf isn't too bad. Did some research and it turns out the the Maxidex Drops can cause pupil sensitivity, that along with the ghostling and blurry
vision seems to signify this. I found out that you can use Alphagan drops and they constrict your pupils so the abberations and blurring aren't too
bad. I spoke to Emily earlier this week and she spoke to Mark and they have agreed that it would be good for me to try just in case. There is no
saying that it would work but you never know.
As for the astigmatism, I have always had a slight one in each eye. Last time I was checked it had worsend in my left eye so that doesn't help. It
is registering1.75 where as it was 0.75 my right was 1.00
Can't have laser top up until I have had the Yag laser(Can't have that until 6 months after op) as that too can alter you presription slightly - so we
are looking at October.
I have now finished both sets of drops in both eyes and this morning, considering it is overcast, the blurry sight doesn't seem as bad but still
apparent. Even slight cloud cover can alter my distance visin very slightly putting an edge of blur on things. Take a look at this link - and look
at all the simulations. The bottom explains what I am experiencing that is really annoying me, I am assuming glare ghosting and double vision will
cleaar in time - it says it is related to the pupil.
http://www.thevisioncommunity.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&...
I was always told that this might be a long term fix but as things were so good straight after, I thought I was on the home straight LOL

Hi everyone.
Sorry I haven't been on for a while. Unfortunately we have been having some plastering work done at home so my computer is out of action and the
fonts on my netbook are tiny so I have had to wait to get on the site at work!!
I am glad to report that both of my ops went well. The procedure was painless although a little uncomfortable but over very quickly. I also had no
pain after the ops which was amazing considering the trauma to the eyes. I had a check up on Monday of this week and was told I was legal to drive
which is great. My vision isn't perfect though and I am struggling with really small print. I was told that it takes about 2 weeks for the lenses to
settle into place. I have a check up next Thursday where they will check my focussing in more detail. I was also told that 8 weeks is the point at
which your vision is likely to be more stable.
My eyes are little uncomfortable today and I am hoping that this is just part of the healing process.
Stacey - were you nervous putting eye make up on for the first time after your op and more so, taking it off? Have your eyes been OK since you
started wearing it?
Anyway, keep in touch everybody. Stacey, if you PM me your e-mail address it will be an easier way of keeping in touch rather than logging on to the
forum each time.
Take care.
Trudy

Hi all
Hope everyone is ok. So sorry I not been on here for ages I've not been very well for a while. Thought I might be anemic, but the blood test said I wasn't, so now I think theres something wrong with my ears. Keep feeling giddy and
light headed. Half term is helping at the moment tho as getting more sleep then usual
Trudy - So glad to hear your ok, was getting worried that you'd had problems.
Really pleased its all gone good for you. Bet your really happy not to have to wear those heavy glasses anymore! I sure am! And I wasn't even wearing
mine all the time like you where before your surgery!! No problems putting makeup on at all afterwards. I brought new eye shadow and mascara and got
some packets of cheap disposable mascara brushes which I used all the time and binned after each application. I wasn't told to do that but just felt
safer doing it. I just use soap to wash off my eye makeup in the evening and thats been fine to. I started off doing it all really gently and it was a
bit sore putting eye shadow on where the stitches where but now it doesn't bother me at all. Hope you got your house all back to normal again now. I
had some replastering done and it stunck for ages afterwards!! Hope yours is ok.
Sharron - Hope your eyes have improved. Looked at that website, which effect does your eyes do? Will glasses not correct it then?
My eyes are doing really good at the moment. Even the stinging dryness has cleared up by itself, I just use my hayfever drops now and then but thats
all. The only small problems I'm having now is driving when the suns really bright as I find I'm really sqiunting and blinking lots as its to bright
for my eyes. I have to wear glasses that utlralase gave me for driving so I can't wear my sunglasses. I called Ultralase last week and asked if it was
possible to have some prescription sunglasses or even some clip-ons for the glasses they've given me and they said yes that would be fine and they'd
send some out to me. Well I only just got them today and oh dear, there just another pair of glasses like they gave me 2 months ago! They don't even
have my updated prescription in! I've not had a chance to phone them today to sort
it out so will try to 2moro. At my last checkup my prescription had changed but Emily said the glasses I had now would be fine, but I am feeling like
the vision in my right eye with the glasses is not as good as when it was corrected at my checkup so think I shall also ask if its possible to get a
pair of glasses sent to me with my updated prescription in.
I'm not wearing my glasses much at all which is really good!
For some reason the last two nights I've woken up with a really sore left eye, like I've hit myself in my eye or something. Don't know if I've been laying on it or something, but its had me a bit worried. I
don't want to ruin my now good eyesight. Maybe I should try putting a sheild on it at night?? Don't really want to but might stop me hurting it at
night??
Other then that pleased so far

Hi Sharian
You mentioned Alphagan drops. How much do they help, as I like you have the ghosting and slight blur. My surgeon has given me glasses to wear for a
week to see if there is an astigmatism causing the symptoms. He said use them for a week then if no improvement try the Alphagan drops. All the
glasses have done is make the letters slightly taller so I am tempted to try the drops almost straight away as I have largish pupils. Hazel

Hi Eye need some help
The alphagan drops worked within ten mins of putting them in for me and lasted all day. I was told that I should try not to rely on the glasses and
only use them when I really needed to as my eyes were still adjusting after the operation.
On my last check 05/06 my astigmatism has gone and back to 20-20 with lights up high but one line less when lights were dimmed. I also mentioned that
the drops seemed to be wearing off during the day and as I have had no side effects I could start using them twice a day. I am now using them twice a
aday and if they stop working they can offer alternatives.
Sorry to reply so late but we were camping and I could get reception on my Dongle to get internet access!
Hope this helps but feel free to pm me if there is anything you specifically you would like to know.
What vision correction did you have and what was your prescription?
