Hi Hev
I have been wearing gas permeable contacts for 30+ years and had mono vision correction via contact lenses for the past 4 years and at my UL check
they think I would be suitable for monovision lasik ultralase plus or elite.
I'm 51 and my prescription is -5.25 -4.75 and astigmatism in both eyes. With my contacts I had a reading prescription (-5.25+1.5)=-3.75 in my left eye
and normal dist -4.75 in my right eye. It sounds weird but your brain learns very quickly to use one eye for close up and other for dist. There is
what I can only describe as a little haziness when looking at distance but so long as the reading prescription isn't too big I can live with it and
reading is fine, presumably my brain knows to ignore the right eye. Choice is live with it or get two good dist eyes and wear reading glasses for
close up but I don't want that. The real problem comes when the short sightedness worsens in a few years. UL say they will treat again if it's a
problem, they're the only ones who will or I could get reading glasses then.
I haven't made my mind up to go for laser yet but my contacts are irritating me after 3pm, another age related problem I believe. It's a lot of money
and I know I can't have perfect vision for dist and reading but at least I know monovision works for me. UL offered to let me try soft lenses to see
if monovision works for me - you could try that.

As mentioned, UL offer lenses to simulate the effect of having monovision treatment, which should help you decide whether or not you'll be happy with
it. Everyone is different, so some people get on well with monovision while others find it unacceptable.
As you're presently myopic, it makes it easier to read close up (with out your glasses). If this is treated and corrected, you'll almost certainly
find you'll need reading glasses for all close work (not just tiny print) because of presbyopia.
Personally I opted to have both eyes treated and use reading glasses when required. Although slightly irksome, the latter are very light and cheap
