Not suitable for Implantable Contact Lens
I had a consultation at OE on Saturday and have been told that I cannot have ICL surgery. I am absolutely devastated. I was told that there is not
enough room in my left eye to accommodate a lens. However, I have a few concerns about the consultation and I wonder if others who have had a similar
consultation could help me out. I have been wearing gas permeable lenses for 25 years. OE told me to take my lenses out for 7 days prior to the
consultation. Most other companies ask that you leave your lenses out at least 3-4 weeks prior to the consultation. Could this have had a bearing on
the result? Also, I did not have any drops put in my eyes to dilate my pupils. Is this normal? I took my husband with me as I was told that I would
have these drops and I would not be able to drive. I was so upset when the optician told me I couldn't have the treatment that I did not ask these
questions.
I have decided to have a second opinion at Ultralase on 3 April. I found the initial chat on the phone very helpful and I was told that Ultralase
have been able to treat some people who were turned down by other companies.
If anyone can offer any help or advice I would be really grateful.

Sorry to hear of your experience at OE, but it sounds like you have the right idea in getting a second opinion. The explanation of "not having enough
room" seems woefully inadequate to me.
Sometimes a refusal is simply down to the technology and/or surgeons available to a particular company, rather than purely the suitability of a person
for treatment.
Good luck with your consultation at UL, don't be afraid to ask questions

Thanks so much for your response. Having done quite a lot of research on the subject I am hopeful that I may be suitable for refractive lens
exchange. I am hoping I will get better news from a second opinion and will even consider a third opinion if necessary although if three people say
no then I think I will have to be realistic and go back to the contact lenses.

Can I ask why you want IOL and not laser surgery?? Are you not suitable for that either? Your right in getting another opinion as different companies
use different equipment and methods for there treatment so just becasue your not suitable with one company its definatly doesnt mean your unsiutable
full stop. First I went to UL and they said No way, it would be mad treating you. So then I tried OE and they said Yes, no problem at all (treatment
was very successful).
Good luck. I know what the crushing disapointment of being told your unsuitable feels like.

Hi - I am afraid it is not a case of wanting IOL surgery. Unfortunately it is my only option as my prescription is +9.50 and +8.75 with astigmatism.
I am not even borderline for laser surgery.
