Ultralase Surgery Options - Differences?
Hi Guys,
I'm having trouble differentiating between the top two Ultralase options: Ultralase Plus and Ultralase Elite.
Why is one almost £400 (per eye) more than the other? Apparently they use the same laser etc etc...
Can anyone help my identify what makes the "Elite" this much better?
Cheers,
TD

Hi, I wondered the same - I think it may depend on your prescription and consultation results.
I was approx -3 for both eyes and the consultation findings were pretty straight forward. I therefore went with the plus rather than elite. Only had
it done this week and am so far amazed with the results. I know someone who recently had the elite at the same UL clinic and he is also very pleased
(he had worse natural sight than me so was advised to have the elite).
So far I have at least 20/20 vision and everything is very clear - no way of knowing if the elite would have been better and if so by how much but I
cant imagine it could be much better than what I have now if at all. For me I'm really very happy with the plus (and not just because of the £800).
Good luck choosing

Hi TD,
Elite is the newest treatment at Ultralase and has proven best results . For instance, 99% of people achieved 20:20 vision with Elite.
The main difference between Elite and Wavefront is that Elite looks to retain as much of the corneas natural shape as possible. The usual comparison
is between a watching a normal TV and a high definition TV.
Hope this is of use!

Thanks guys!
I get that it has proven results etc, but what makes it better?
I.e. if they use the exact same laser, what technologically, or surgically is different with the Ultra that is not found in the Plus procedure?

Hi TD,
The better the results of the treatment, coupled with the fact that Elite keeps the corneas natural shape help to give improved quality of vision.
Ultra is the reshaping of the cornea where as the Plus treatment incorporates Wavefront which only lasers part of the eye that attribute to the
prescription.
The surface of the cornea isn't smooth and is almost ridged so wavefront looks to take off the ridges.
Thanks,
Luisa

Okay - it makes sense I guess... So neither is particular aimed at treating high (or lower) prescriptions than the other?
I.e. a surgeon wouldn't suggest Elite over Plus because the patient has a worse prescription?
Because you're implying that the Elite better smooths the cornea, regardless of prescription...
So therefore, what signs might the PA/surgeon tell me that would indicate I need Elite (my corneas smoothed) as opposed to not and getting the
Plus?
If that makes sense!
Cheers!

Hi TD,
It's worth bearing in mind that I'm not an optom or PA and that they'll be best trained in suggesting the better treatment for you.
All I can give you is the details in the way in which they work.
Elite is more precise at enhancing your vision and correcting the bumps or abberations in your cornea so if you have a higher prescription, the
likelihood is that these are more severe than in someone of a lower prescription.
Elite as I mentioned has the best results in correcting these bumps and with a higher prescription you'll probably get the better result.
Hope this makes sense, but if you're in two minds about what to go with then your best speaking to your Optom or PA.
